Select BLOOD if you are doing a conventional blood donation.
During a conventional blood donation, the blood is taken as is. It is then separated into its various components (plasma, platelets and red blood cells) at the Héma-Québec laboratory.
Select PLATELETS if your donation includes platelets. For example:
A platelet donation;
A platelet and plasma donation (single or double);
A platelet and red blood cell donation.
During a platelet donation, the blood is separated during collection by a device that retrieves just the required blood components (platelets, plasma, red blood cells) and returns the others to the donor.
During a plasma donation, the blood is separated during collection by a device that retrieves just the plasma and returns the other blood components to the donor.
